Published on 30th June 2017
Rhys Bradbury in Year 10 has been competing in the 14-16 year old category of The Young School Gardener of The Year competition. Rhys competed against 3 students from other schools for the overall title. A panel of gardening experts including BBC Gardeners World presenters will judge the entries and pick the category winners
Rhys has completed his Introductory Award in Practical Horticulture and to expand his knowledge even further he has helped residents working on allotment plots in the Oadby and Wigston community.
Rhys’ goal is to become a landscape gardener and is developing the skill-set to do just that.
On Saturday Rhys will travel down to the awards ceremony at RHS Wisley in Surrey for the day to receive the finalists’ prize, which will also include gardening vouchers for the school.
Rhys has shown commitment and passion throughout the course and this week was invited to speak on the Gardening hour at Radio Leicester with Mr Weatherill. He talked about his nomination and how he has developed as a Horticulturist at South Wigston High School.
Well done Rhys! A tremendous achievement.
