GCSE History
Why did prehistoric medicine men drill a hole in the brain?
How were operations carried out in the 19th century?
Why is this man so important for modern medicine?

From September 2008 we are starting an exciting new course in Humanities for our most able pupils. We are teaching a short course in GCSE History. This is equivalent to ½ GCSE.
Pupils will leave SWHS with a formal qualification which they can build upon in the future. This course will help pupils to develop their exam and study skills in preparation for GCSE qualifications.
The course involves the study of two units
- Medicine Through Time – A developmental study
- Northern Ireland – A modern world study
In the summer term of Year 9 pupils will sit the exam - based on the unit of the course. They will have also submitted a piece of coursework on the troubles in Northern Ireland.
